Store it stuffed, in its dust bag
An empty bag slumps and creases; stuff it lightly with tissue or a cotton pouch to hold the shape. Keep it in a breathable dust bag, upright, not stacked under other bags. Never in a hot car — heat cracks leather and lifts glued edges.
Wipe, don’t scrub
A soft dry cloth after use removes dust and the beginnings of a stain. For a mark, a barely damp cloth on smooth leather only — never on suede or nubuck, which stain with water. Do not use household wipes, alcohol or “all-purpose” leather cleaners: on the wrong finish they strip colour and leave a dark patch that cannot be reversed.
Condition once a season
Leather needs its oils replaced. A conditioner matched to the finish, applied thinly and buffed, keeps it supple and slows cracking. If you are not sure which finish you have — smooth, grained, patent, suede, nubuck — leave conditioning to a specialist; we identify the leather and test on a hidden spot first.
